Theresa Hoft, PhD

Theresa Hoeft

Acting Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
University of Washington

Dr. Hoeft’s graduate training in health economics and health services research focused on quantitative health care cost studies as well as mixed-methods research conducted in partnership with a local community clinic (Ph.D. – University of Wisconsin).  Since graduate school she has developed skills in community-based participatory research (CBPR) through work at a health care organization serving the Alaska Native population in Anchorage, Alaska and work with community-based co-researchers in rural areas of southwest Alaska.  Her skill-set focuses on mixed-methods research conducted in partnership with community stakeholders as she takes a patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) approach to health services research.

Dr. Hoeft’s research interests lie in patient-centered care for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to account for the patient’s unique preferences, needs, culture and values.  She is interested in ways health systems can engage and support complex patients with comorbid conditions.  She also serves as an economic consultant with the AIMS Center at University of Washington assisting with an economic evaluation on a project implementing Collaborative Care in rural community health clinics in the WWAMI states, and is helping lead a mixed-methods evaluation of a community-engaged project to improve late-life depression treatment with community partners in California.
