Undergraduate Teaching Labs

Students on the Whiting School of Engineering campus have access to EHE’s two undergraduate teaching labs, more than 16 individual laboratories for environmental engineering research, and computers for scientific modeling. Each lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment for its function. We are committed to adding and upgrading our labs.

Undergraduates in the Whiting School's Department of Environmental Health and Engineering use precision instruments to learn real-world lab practices.

  • Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometer
  • Gas chromatography/mass spectrometer
  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer
  • Ultracentrifuge
  • Capillary electrophoresis
  • Liquid-water isotope analyzer
  • Total organic carbon
  • Ion chromatography
  • UV-Vis spectrophotometer

Microbial Research Labs

The department has a biological safety level 2 (BSL-2) lab in Ames Hall with DNA research equipment. The lab also has a biological safety cabinet, a laminar flow hood, two ultra-centrifuges, and two -80 ºC freezers.

Limnology and Hydrology Labs

Our labs have a liquid-water isotope analyzer, artificial EMriver, fluid mechanic equipment, microscopes, and field equipment.
