Collaborations and Reciprocities

School of Medicine IRB

The JHSPH IRB and the SOM IRB have in place a reciprocity agreement that permits a single review from one of the IRBs, even if the PI and co-investigators come from both institutions. The IRB of the institution with which the PI has his or her primary affiliation will review the study. Approved research will accept the consent forms approved by the IRBs from both institutions. Student investigators from each institution may work with a PI from the other institution, and the research will be reviewed by the PI’s institution.

The JHM IRB serves as the IRB of record for The Johns Hopkins University Schools of Medicine and Nursing, The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Howard County General Hospital, The Kennedy Krieger Institute, The Johns Hopkins Community Physicians and the Applied Physics Laboratory. Collaborators from any of these JH Divisions may be included as co-investigators on a JHSPH IRB-approved study without undergoing additional IRB review by the JHM IRB.
