Meet Our Tutors
Writing Center tutors are enrolled in various degree programs at the Bloomberg School. They have completed a rigorous training process and are eager to assist BSPH students. Meet the tutors below!
Brandon Gorodokin
I am a first year ScM student in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB). I studied Biology and Computer Science as an undergrad at NYU, where I also worked as a Writing Tutor, and I am excited to assist the Writing Center as Coordinator. I specialize in bringing out the unique voice of the writer in argumentative writing and research papers, but I'm excited to assist with all kinds of writing projects.
Fun fact: I'm a D&D Dungeon master, a competitive Smash Brothers player, and an avid fan of Star Wars, Pokemon, and Halo.
Nimasha Fernando, MPH
I am a first year DrPH student in the Women’s and Reproductive Health concentration and I hold my MPH in Global Health from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. I am a Program Optimization Officer at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation where I support programs to strengthen the quality of HIV-related services offered to children, mothers, and families in Sub-Saharan African countries. I specialize in technical writing for global health audiences and enjoy coaching changemakers to translate their ideas and messages into writing.
Fun Fact: I visited two new countries this year.
Odia Kane
I am a third-year PhD student studying Health Policy and Management with a concentration in bioethics. I previously worked as a Writing Tutor at the University of Connecticut for four years. My tutor philosophy is rooted in assisting writers with their confidence, clarity, and concision on any writing project.
Fun Fact: I did Model United Nations for five years because my friends and I snuck on a high school team in the 8th grade!
Murray/Elli McGovern
I am a first year MSPH student in the Department of Health Policy and Management. I graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Public Health and Public Policy. My writing specialties include clear and concise argumentative writing including policy memos, issue briefs, and short/long persuasive essays.
Fun Fact: New Girl is my favorite comfort show and I like to think of myself as a Jess.
Madeleine Payne
I am a first year MSPH student in the Social and Behavioral Interventions program in the Department of International Health. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at UC Davis, where I also spent three years working as a science writer and editor for the student-run newspaper, The California Aggie. I enjoy working on all types of writing and am looking forward to meeting students wherever they are in their writing process.
Fun Fact: I love to backpack and a life goal of mine is to hike the PCT!
Elizabeth Sharp
I am a first year MHS student in the Department of Epidemiology following the Cancer Epidemiology track. I graduated with a bachelor's in biology and anthropology from St. Mary's College of Maryland, where I was a writing tutor for the majority of my undergraduate career. I specialize in editing and assisting with several different writing forms, and I look forward to continuing tutoring at the Bloomberg School!
Fun Fact: I love to travel around the world and hike in the places I've traveled to.
Libby Walker
I am a full-time MPH student concentrating in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I earned my BS in Health Sciences from Gettysburg College and spent three years working in clinical neurology research. I have extensive experience as a peer tutor and am excited to help students with grammar, succinctness, and clarity.
Fun Fact: I love to travel and have visited more than 20 countries!
