Description
Focuses on the development of hard and soft skills and tools needed to prepare for residency placement in the second year of the program. Provides opportunities for engagement with alumni and interprofessional work environments. Prepares students to enter the healthcare management work environment through applied experiences and professional development activities. Builds CAHME Competencies in the areas of relationship management and the standards of professional behavior and leadership. Supports students through professional interviews and activities aimed at obtaining a residency placement. Continues to provide opportunities to develop skills in Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the healthcare field through the student-led Care for All Patients series.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Examine healthcare roles and organizations that advance health status as a fundamental right for all –following the Johns Hopkins International Declaration of Health Rights
  2. Draw connections between health administration core functions employed in different work settings
  3. Work effectively in a team and produce a professional and persuasive presentation
  4. Build CAHME competencies within the Relationship Management domain through effective listening, critical thinking, networking, and teamwork
  5. Demonstrate CAHME Standards of Professional Behavior domain through professional conduct, personal initiative, hosting and seminar facilitation, self-reflection, and peer mentoring
  6. Refine professional written and oral communication through interviews with organizational preceptors, and leaders, and communication with alumni
  7. Participate in and reflect on ways to actively build and contribute to a workplace culture that values interpersonal relationships and promotes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through the Care for All Patients series
