My current research interest involves understanding the contributions of socioeconomic and neighborhood conditions to the distribution of chronic liver diseases and risk factors, and to the observed disparities by race/ethnicity (particularly among Hispanics) and by SES. In addition, I'm also interested in characterizing the burden of chronic liver disease and risk factors in Latin American countries.

My past research program focused on: 1) Epidemiology of chronic diseases, in particular chronic liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity, and 2) Health effects of alcohol consumption. I've employed a broad scope of methodologies from primary data collection, to secondary data analyses of US national surveys and cohort studies, systematic reviews, and the conduct of clinical trials. Dr. Lazo has conducted work in the U.S. but also internationally in Latin America.

My primary appointment is as an Associate Research Professor at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health with appointments at the Department of Community Health and Prevention and the Urban Health Collaborative. In addition to the Drexel affiliation, I retain an appointment as Associate Professor (Adjunct) at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and as faculty of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity.
