Please join the Center for Humanitarian Health for a special presentation by Dr. Rachel Coghlan.
Dr. Rachel Coghlan is a visiting scholar at the Center for Humanitarian Health. She will present on caring for the seriously ill and dying in humanitarian crises. Situations of armed conflict, epidemics, and disasters are often marked by high mortality and suffering on a large scale. And yet the needs of those who would benefit from palliative care are not well understood and are believed to often go unmet. Palliative care is rarely formally considered or enacted by humanitarian agencies in rhetoric, policy, research, or practice. Rachel will provide a broad overview of challenges facing humanitarian actors and current responses. She will share stories and lessons from her research on palliative care in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. She will then discuss practical next steps to broaden, and hopefully stimulate, greater dialogue on palliative care amongst humanitarian actors and agencies.
For those attending virtually, please register via Zoom.
No registration is needed for those coming in person to room W3030.
