About the Event

Hosted by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC), the monthly Innovations in Tobacco Control lecture series welcomes key researchers and experts to share ideas, present their work, and spark discussion.

Presented via Zoom webinar, this virtual event welcomes Fernanda Alonso, PhD, for a lecture entitled, “Policies Related to Health Warning Label Rotation in the PAHO Region.”

The lecture will be followed by a brief moderated Q&A and a recording of the event will subsequently be posted to IGTC’s YouTube channel.

Fernanda Alonso

Fernanda Alonso, PhD ’22

Fernanda Alonso, PhD, is a public health and drug policy consultant. Fernanda completed a PhD in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She studied law in Mexico City at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and then went on to do her LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Global Health Law at Georgetown University. Fernanda has worked on issues around law and public health throughout her career, working primarily on the regulation of risk factors for noncommunicable diseases and drug policy. In Mexico, she was the Executive Director of the Drug Policy Program at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE). Since moving to the US, she has worked as an Associate at the O'Neill Institute of National and Global Health at Georgetown University, as a legal specialist at the Pan American Health Organization, and on multiple projects with academic institutions, international organizations, and NGOs.
