About 1 out of 33 people are estimated to need humanitarian assistance. Moreover, this number is expected to increase due to the changing nature of conflict and compounding effects of climate change, making health in humanitarian crises a global political priority. In this presentation, Mrs. Poole will showcase methodological innovations for impactful public health research in humanitarian crises. Using an ongoing study of attacks on healthcare facilities in Ukraine as an example, she’ll present 1) an application of geospatial analyses to empirically identify threats to public health in conflict, 2) methodological approaches to address common evidence gaps in humanitarian crises, and 3) the immediate policy implications of my research. Finally, she’ll map her future research agenda across the domains of health and climate change in humanitarian crises.
