Description
Offers an in-depth exploration of the pathophysiology of nutrition-related diseases and their corresponding nutrition interventions within the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) framework. Explores the anatomy and function of body systems, along with the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying disease. Emphasizes metabolic disturbances, biochemical markers, and evidence-based nutrition interventions for disease prevention and management. Includes these key topics: gastrointestinal and endocrine disorders, obesity, cardiovascular disease, renal and hepatobiliary conditions, and the role of precision nutrition in personalized care.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Explain the underlying nutritional implications of several common diseases
  2. Define evidence-based medical nutrition therapy (MNT) plans tailored to specific chronic diseases
  3. Integrate pathophysiological mechanisms into their nutrition interventions
  4. Discuss current prevention strategies, guidelines, and emerging research in disease onset and management
  5. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition therapy in disease progression, symptom management, and overall patient outcomes
