Catalyzing Change Part 1: Practical Approaches to Health Policy (318.864)

Description
Tailored for health policy DrPH students, this course cultivates expertise in policy transformation. Gain invaluable skills in media interviews, persuasive legislative testimonies, and impactful interactions with policymakers. Prepare to drive meaningful change to promote the public’s health.
Prepares students to lead teams to further a health policy intervention. Provides hands-on experience with delivering testimony, conducting media interviews, and discerning how one's leadership style can support this work. Second course in a two-part series on Catalyzing Change.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Identify and employ a range of opportunities for engaging policy makers, including one-to-one meetings, testimony, rulemaking comments, etc.
  2. Employ communications to set public agendas and frame public health problems to drive toward achievable solutions
  3. Embody inclusive leadership strategies to engage and enlist support outside traditional public health sectors, including bipartisan approaches, and business, labor, and faith community engagement
  4. Apply rules governing lobbying and advocacy in nonprofit (including educational) and government settings to one's own work
  5. Evaluate how one's leadership style will benefit or challenge one to adapt skills and concepts presented in this class
