Description
Fosters the responsible conduct of scientific research using a combination of lectures, discussion and analysis of case studies. Includes topics: data management, conflict of interest, scientific misconduct, questionable research practices, responsible authorship, peer review, collaborations with peers and industry, trainee-mentor relationships, research ethics and regulatory requirements of the conduct of animal and human research, and the scientist as a responsible member of society.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Explain the regulatory requirements that govern the modern research environment
  2. Discuss the expectations for adherence to the ethical principles in the conduct of research
  3. Apply ethical and regulatory principles to the trainee’s own current and future research program

This course is evaluated as follows:
  • 50% Discussion
  • 25% Peer-feedback
  • 25% Participation
Enrollment Restriction
Eligibility restricted to doctoral students. Other JHSPH students or fellows who are required to have in-person RCR training based on funding source may also enroll.
