Designed to help students achieve CTES-specific competencies and prepare for the written comprehensive and oral examinations. Support progress on theses and dissertations and provides opportunities for students to interact with CTES faculty and other trialists and evidence synthesis experts. Presents methods and appraises manuscripts addressing clinical trial design, conduct, analysis, and reporting as well as topics related to the synthesis of evidence using systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis products.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Read and critically appraise clinical trials and evidence synthesis manuscripts.
- Practice presenting and facilitating discussion of a scientific manuscript
- Identify and model best practices for presenting thesis and dissertation research to students and faculty
- Develop strategies for responding to comments and questions from thought leaders in the field about thesis and dissertation research.
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
- 10% Discussion Board
- 70% Participation
- 20% Presentation(s)
Students are expected to complete the weekly readings PRIOR to each seminar meeting. Sessions begin at 12:15 PM.
Except for 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7, 2/1, 3/7, 4/4, 5/2. Thursdays at 8:30 - 9:30.
