Introduction to Online Learning
What knowledge and skills are essential for delivering training or educational experiences in academic, organizational, or community settings? Students will examine the nature of education through the lenses of adult and professional learners as well as the lens of educational leaders and apply these skills within the context of their career aims and development. This course will meet the DrPH Education & Workforce Development competencies.
Offers students opportunities to explore how to assess audience knowledge and learning needs to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate educational approaches for a range of audiences and to attain professional aims. Considers various approaches to deliver training and educational experiences that promote learning in academic, organizational, or community settings. Engages students in developing educational philosophies, reflecting upon personal and educational experiences, and using best practice modalities in pedagogical practices to deliver training and educational experiences in alignment with their professional and leadership advancement.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Articulate an educational philosophy
- Assess target audience knowledge and learning needs
- Implement teaching and learning strategies that align with the student’s educational philosophies and professional goals
- Recognize the importance of communication, emotional and social intelligence, collaboration, listening, and self-reflection skills for effective teaching, learning, and leading
- Recognize motivational, social, and contextual aspects of teaching and learning as they apply to a range of audiences, educational settings, and learning objectives
- Design an educational intervention lesson plan that outlines learning objectives and outcomes and uses best practice modalities in pedagogical practices
- Deliver training and educational experiences to promote learning in academic, organizational, or community settings
