Prerequisite
Addresses the nature of racial and ethnic disparities in health status and introduces the research literature on race disparities. Develops an annotated bibliography of research on a minority health topic selected by the class and produces a literature review on that topic.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify demographic and epidemiological patterns in health status by race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status
- Identify racial/ethnic disparities in access and quality of health care
- Identify theories explaining racial/ethnic disparities in health status and healthcare access and quality
- Identify conceptual models and frameworks for reducing and/or eliminating health status and healthcare disparities
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
- 50% Participation
- 50% Final Paper
