Doctoral Seminar in Health Systems III

Prepare second-year PhD students in the Health Systems program area to develop and defend their research proposal. Practices drafting a research proposal, presenting and critiquing research proposals.
Learning ObjectivesUpon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze and present a critique of a scientific journal article – appraising choice of methods
- Appraise and apply scientifically sound and appropriate methods and tools to design a research study including a conceptual/theoretical framework, study instrument, sampling design, and plan for data analysis
- Communicate scientific findings through written and oral methods to scientific audiences and peers
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
- 30% Participation
- 30% Discussion
- 20% Presentation(s)
- 20% Sections of thesis proposal
Only for PhD students in Health Systems in their second year
Students will meet onsite weekly to be determined by instructor.
