Get prepared to teach! This course is for doctoral students, post-docs and fellows in all JHU and JHMI departments, current and future faculty and any person who will routinely be involved in University teaching activities.
This eight-week course will prepare participants to be effective University teachers who: 1. Are knowledgeable about how learning takes place 2. Can develop and use appropriate active learning strategies in their University classrooms 3. Can propose ways to make University classrooms more inclusive and equitable
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Explain key terminology relevant to educational theory and University teaching practice
  2. Apply theories of learning and frameworks of teaching
  3. Design activities that facilitate active learning
  4. Compose learning outcomes and identify appropriate learning strategies an assessments
  5. Illustrate the skill of facilitating discussion among learners
  6. Critique student performance and provide constructive feedback
  7. Describe the elements of inclusive and equitable classrooms
  8. Analyze the ways in which teaching and learning can be practices in justice
