William C. Clarke, a prominent Baltimore-based philanthropist, has made a second financial gift to a Peru-based project focused on improving indoor air quality and residents' health.
Steven Harvey, PhD ’06, MHS ’00, an associate professor in the Department of International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, leads the project. He and his team are testing strategies to move families away from cooking with biomass fuel (wood, crop waste, charcoal, and animal dung) by making cleaner fuels like liquified petroleum gas (LPG) more affordable. The end goal is to improve indoor air quality and, in turn, people’s health. His work is also supported by a grant from the Johns Hopkins Alliance for a Healthier World.
