Overview

I am primarily interested in the development and application of epidemiologic tools to answer key global health questions. In my current role, my applied research areas are in perinatal HIV, HIV comorbidities, and HIV and epidemiologic methods in the US and globally. I work within two large HIV cohort studies: the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS)/Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS), and the North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) and its larger consortium, the International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA). I leverage these applied research areas to expand methods in survival analysis and generalizability.

Most of my research before joining Johns Hopkins is in the Philippines, where I was born and raised. Most notably, I assisted in the development of the national COVID-19 surveillance system and co-led several COVID-19 studies. I was the principal investigator of a large occupational health study measuring the burden of migraine in the workplace in major Philippine cities. I was also the co-investigator of the first national-level tuberculosis quality of care assessment in the country. I also conduct research on the policy design and evaluation of several national health care financing reforms in the context of achieving universal health coverage (UHC).
