Overview
My work aims to enhance epidemiological and biological insights into the major causes of adverse pregnancy, perinatal, and infant health outcomes, including the development of tools and technologies for early detection and management of adverse conditions to substantially improve maternal, perinatal, newborn, and child health. I am particularly keen to discover biomarkers of preterm birth, allowing timely identification and management of preterm babies. I have multiple studies aimed at these goals. These studies fall into three categories: i) discovery and development of new tools to identify and manage adverse pregnancy outcomes; ii) clinical trials for evidence of efficacy/effectiveness of new interventions; and iii) clinical-epidemiological studies to identify risk factors for adverse pregnancy, perinatal and infant health outcomes. Several of my studies are multi-country studies coordinated by the WHO, allowing me to participate and contribute to the design of these studies along with investigators from South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and the WHO.
