The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) has extensive experience with what are known as the “core four” violence reduction strategies. These four strategies include the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy (also known as Ceasefire), Hospital-Based Violence Intervention, Advance Peace, and Street Outreach/ Cure Violence. All four strategies focus on communities and individuals at highest risk for being involved in violence; employ what are known as Credible Messengers, or trusted community outreach workers; and provide ongoing services, support, and opportunities for high-risk areas. These elements have been identified as essential components of effective community-based violence reduction strategies across the country. Join Nehali Vishwanath, MPH ‘23 for an overview of the Core Four followed by a facilitated discussion.
