Bruce W. Furness, MD, MPH '01, FACPM (“Bryce”) is a Medical Epidemiologist in the Division of STD Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He has been embedded in the Washington, DC Department of Health since 2002 and has acted in many different capacities: as the Acting Chief, Division of STD Control – multiple times – most notably from January 2010–February 2011; as the Chief Medical Officer, Southeast STD & TB Control and Chest Clinics – October 2013–October 2015; and currently, as the Strategic Information Division’s STD Medical Epidemiologist.

Highlights of his tenure include starting and evaluating the District’s Internet Partner Notification (IPN) Program, helping start and manage the District’s School-based STD Screening Program, and acting as a volunteer physician for Whitman-Walker Health’s Gay Men’s Health & Wellness Clinic.
