Join us for the inaugural Sommer Klag Advocacy Impact Awards Lightning Pitch Competition and Social!

The competition features five, early-career Bloomberg School faculty members who will each have 7 minutes to pitch their plans for shifting policy through advocacy in their area of expertise:

  • Harry Barbee, PhD
    Assistant Professor, Department of Health, Behavior and Society
    “Supporting Transgender People and Access to Gender-Affirming Health Care”
  • Nadia Akseer, PhD, MSc
    Assistant Scientist, Department of International Health
    “Mission Afghanistan 2030 – An advocacy journey for the forgotten people of my homeland”
  • Gigi Kwik Gronvall, PhD
    Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Health and Engineering
    “Virology Research is Critically Needed—How do we ensure safety, security, and progress?”
  • Melissa Hopkins, JD
    Assistant Scientist, Department of Environmental Health and Engineering
    “Staff Delegation on AIxBio Risks”
  • Cass Crifasi, PhD, MPH
    Associate Professor, Health Policy and Management
    “Advancing Firearm Purchaser Licensing Laws to Save Lives”

There will also be special remarks from Dean Ellen MacKenzie, Lerner Center director, Shelley Hearne, and inaugural Sommer Klag Advocacy Achievement Award winners, Shannon Frattaroli and Josh Horwitz. 

The two Advocacy Impact Award winners will be determined by an all-star Bloomberg School judging panel...
