Kerry has been a proud public health advocate and employee of Mecklenburg County Public Health in Charlotte, NC for the past 16 years. For the first 13 years, she worked in the Epidemiology program and was primarily responsible for directing our Community Health Assessment process. For the past three years, she has served as the Director of our Office of Innovation and Strategy. In this current role, Kerry oversees a diverse set of functions that serve the entire department. These include strategic planning, performance reporting, training, and grant writing.
Kerry has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Union College in Schenectady, NY. After graduating, she worked at Girls Inc., a non-profit that seeks to inspire all girls to be “strong, smart, and bold.” In this role she was working on an adolescent pregnancy prevention grant and began to see how local policy (schools teaching “abstinence only”) was impacting health outcomes. After working in this role as a health educator, she decided to purse her master’s degree in public health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a concentration in women’s and reproductive health. Though not working in this specific field, women’s health continues to be a passion and she supports efforts to bring doula care to women and families who may not be able to afford the out-of-pocket costs.
Outside of work, Kerry enjoys baking exciting cakes for her children's birthdays, traveling, and the occasional run or yoga class, weather and mood permitting.
