The JHU LGBTQ Working Group will be holding a guest speaker event with Dr. Beverley Palesa Ditsie on Thursday, May 5, from 12 - 1:30 PM on zoom.
Dr. Bev is a South African LGBTQ rights activist and filmmaker. She is the first openly lesbian woman to speak on the importance of LGBT rights in front of the United Nations in 1995. Her documentary Simon & I recounts her and her fellow friend and activist, Simon Nikoli's, pivotal role in the gay and lesbian liberation movement in South Africa during the AIDS crisis.
At this talk, Dr. Bev will recount her journey as an activist and her filmmaking process. For those who are interested, please register using this link, or use the attached PDF. Here is a link to watch Simon & I.
