This presentation (Theme: Resilience) is an introduction to the African Diaspora and global Black History. Presenters, Moriah Ray and Jasmine Kayla Hall (co-founders) will begin with defining “historical erasure” in order to get participants to better interrogate their current understandings of Black History. Next, participants will define the concept of the African Diaspora through our premiere African Diaspora map and the “Faces of The Diaspora” activity. Participants will be able to explore three major historical events to further their understanding of global African history and how it has been intentionally neglected. The case studies used to unpack historical erasure will be The Haitian Revolution and Maroonage/ Enslaved Resistance.
