Description
Introduces students to the major transitional diseases in low and middle-income countries. Includes lectures on detail-specific chronic diseases, stressing such areas as significance, prevention, diagnosis and management. Gains a basic foundation of the epidemiology and challenges in the management of chronic diseases in low and middle-income countries, which prepares them to work with research programs and international organizations.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe the epidemiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of major chronic diseases in low and middle-income countries
  2. Explain the role that environmental exposures have in chronic disease development
  3. Apply concepts learned to develop programs to research, prevent and manage Chronic Diseases in LMICS
