Description
What is disability? What health inequities do people with disabilities face? What barriers impact the inclusion of people with disabilities in public health research? What areas must be addressed to improve the health of people with disability?
Examines disability and disability health within the context of public health research and policy to advance equity and social justice. Discusses the origins and current landscape of disability health research from the perspectives of key stakeholders, inclusive of researchers, advocates, policy makers, with a focus on including the perspectives of people with disability.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Define disability and contrast varying disability models, including medical and social models
  2. Describe health inequities in the disability community
  3. Describe and compare historical and current policies that impact the health of people with disability
  4. Identify barriers to inclusion of people with disability in research
  5. Investigate high priority areas in disability research, including data to address inequities and disability justice
