Description
Assists PhD students in developing their dissertation proposal through updates and discussion of progress, and faculty lectures on relevant topics in this second of 2-term HPM proposal writing course. Covers major components of the proposal including, thesis topics and conceptualization, formulating specific aims, research questions and hypotheses, identifying sources of data, study design and methods, and logistical aspects of the oral examination process.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Refine a dissertation research topic, specific research questions, and potential data sources.
  2. Develop a detailed beta version of the thesis proposal including the background and rationale, specific aims and hypotheses, study design and analytic approach
  3. Gain tools to prepare for the departmental and school-wide oral exam
