Sexual & gender minorities are parts of every community, program, and study—make sure you are attuned to their needs for maximum impact.
Explores sexual and gender minority health in global, cultural, and historical contexts. Introduces tools, frameworks, and models for adapting health programs for, or to be inclusive of, sexual and gender minorities. Provides opportunities for students to propose adaptations to a health intervention or program in a specific setting and anticipate challenges. Explores how findings can be used to create sexual and gender minority-inclusive health programs.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Apply global awareness and cultural sensitivity to the adaptation of health programs and interventions focusing on diverse sexual and gender minorities.
- Explain the roles of minority stress, stigma, discrimination, and criminalization on the health of sexual and gender minoirities.
- Explain the various conceptualizations of sexual and gender minorities cross-culturally and historically and their importance to adaptation.
