340.762 Epi Methods for Doctoral Students II

Description
Introduces epidemiologic methods to doctoral students in the department of epidemiology including prediction in epidemiology, causal inference methods, mediation, advanced analytical methods to address bias, evidence synthesis, and translational epidemiology.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe the process and purpose of building and validating prediction models for their use in clinical practice and research.
  2. Identify situations when causal inference methods are appropriate and utilize analytical tools such as propensity scores, inverse probability weights, and G-computation to obtain effect estimates from observational data.
  3. Identify potential sources of bias and use appropriate analytical tools to address them.
  4. Describe how evidence from multiple studies can be synthesized and what are the challenges in doing so.
  5. Explain how findings from epidemiological studies can impact clinical practice or policy by using a translational epidemiology framework.
