Introduction to Online Learning
Community health workers (CHWs) are the backbone of primary health care. They require culturally and technically appropriate training to serve the communities in which they work.
Discusses the skills required for planning, designing, and evaluating training and learning programs for CHWs. Explores how training and learning needs are determined by CHWs, their communities, and national contexts. Provides students with an opportunity to design a training guide based upon an assessment of CHW’s learning needs. Demonstrates how to outline a formative, summative, and follow-up evaluation plan for CHW training and learning needs.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role and recruitment processes for community based primary health care workers (CHWs)
- Determine the training and learning needs of CHWs in a given community and national context
- Formulate appropriate learning objectives and content for CHWs
- Design relevant and culturally appropriate training and learning methods for CHWs
- Outline a formative, summative and follow-up evaluation plan for CHW training and learning programs
