Resources
Allows all departmental ScM students to spend at least one to three terms participating in the research activities of departmental faculty's or preceptor's laboratories. Provides the opportunity for interaction with several faculty members, so that a thesis laboratory may be identified. Broadens a student's knowledge of laboratory techniques and skills, exposes the student to a variety of research areas, and develops the ability to carry out a research project. Selects appropriate rotations in consultation with their academic advisor and the ScM Program Director.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Perform laboratory techniques and skills
- Design experiments for a variety of research areas in the BMB
- Interact effectively with faculty and fellow lab members about lab-based research
- Develop and carry out a research project based on hypothesis-driven or discovery-driven studies
