Throughout the course, participants will gain insights into developing impactful campaigns for policy change, leveraging media for effective communication, and collaborating with legislators. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from public health experts, as they share their experiences in advocacy activities aligned with the Initiative's focus areas.
Provides an introduction to advocacy concepts and real-world applications. Provides foundational advocacy skills related to developing a campaign for policy change, leveraging the media, and working with legislators. Includes guest lectures from public health professionals participating in advocacy activities in each of the five Bloomberg American Health Initiative Focus Areas.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the application of public health advocacy strategies within the Initiative’s five focus areas
- Examine critical opportunities for public health policy change and consider fiscal, political, administrative, social, and legal factors
- Recognize how and when to use the tools of policy advocacy in a variety of contexts and content areas
