Introduction to Online Learning
Essential commodities are among the 8 basic primary health care services and the 6 health systems building blocks as defined by the World Health Organization
Teaches that primary health care programs in low and middle-income countries require essential health commodities to be made available at the community level. Develops logistic systems to ensure that commodities are adequately estimated and delivered. Requires systems for safely maintaining and monitoring stocks at the community level.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Provide examples of essential medicine formularies for primary health care is low- and middle-income countries
- Apply the steps in essential medicines, commodities and supplies procurement and supply in a sample country
- Describe the best safe practices for managing essential medicines, commodities and supplies at the community level
