Description
Learn how to use computer-based qualitative data analysis software to effectively organize and manage your qualitative data—all in one place; Develop skills to maximize collaborative data analysis within a research team; Discover the power of qualitative data analysis software to deepen insights into your data and visualize your findings
Introduces students to several qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) programs, including MAXQDA, Atlas.ti, NVivo, and Dedoose. Discusses the functions and limitations of qualitative data analysis software. Explores how QDAS can be used throughout a qualitative research project. Explains how to use QDAS for multi-media analysis, including images, video, and audio. Demonstrates how to use QDAS to organize data, produce reports, make comparisons, detect patterns, and facilitate analysis. Demonstrates how to use QDAS in team-based research projects for data coding and analysis. Prepares students to use QDAS to develop deeper insights into their data through visualization and mapping. Complements qualitative research methods and data analysis courses.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Identify the benefits and drawbacks of using computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software - CAQDA and defend a decision to use a specific QDAS program (or not)
  2. Use software throughout a research project, from data collection through analysis
  3. Use CAQDAS to import, query, and manipulate qualitative data
  4. Identity the appropriate data analysis features within a CAQDAS program to answer a particular type of research question or data query
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
  • 20% Discussion
  • 20% LiveTalks
  • 60% Assignments
Special Comments
