This course is designed for those working in malaria or seeking information about current issues and controversies driving the malaria field. Basic understanding of malaria via the online course, Malariology, is the preferred prerequisite.
Presents current controversies and issues in malaria research and control in format of topical lecture and discussion each week. Weekly topics include Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Mosquitoes, Drugs, Diagnostics, Vaccines, Elimination and Control and Economics of Different Interventions.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the interaction of the human host, mosquito vector and Plasmodium parasite in disease pathogenesis outcome.
- Critically evaluate malaria elimination strategies that target vector, parasites and human behavior
- Evaluate approaches, economics and efficacy of vaccines, insecticides and drugs for malaria

- 40% Weekly 500 word critical review of topic
