Assists PhD students in developing their thesis proposal through updates and discussion of progress, and faculty lectures on relevant topics. Covers major components of the proposal including, thesis topics and conceptualization, formulating specific aims, hypotheses, methods (including study design, data, etc.), and logistical aspects of the oral examination process.
Learning ObjectivesUpon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify a dissertation topic, draft specific aims, outline the background literature review, and identify a conceptual framework.
- Develop tools to prepare for the departmental and school-wide oral exam process.

This course is evaluated as follows:
- 30% Participation
- 30% Presentation(s)
- 40% Written Assignment(s)
