Are you involved in, or do you intend to strengthen district health systems in low and middle income countries?
Provides a broad understanding of the application of basic principles of health management and leadership at the sub-national level. Focuses on strengthening of district health systems by managing health services through planning and program development and generation and management of resources. Acquaints strategic approaches in effective service delivery with emphasis on forecasting, problem analysis, managing change, supportive supervision and skills development. Discusses issues in implementing and evaluating national health programs, translating national health priorities into action.
Learning ObjectivesUpon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the rationale, organization and performance of a district health system and its linkages with national and sub-district level health systems
- Assess planning and program development of health services at district level
- Design and implement monitoring and evaluation systems for health services at district level
- Apply core principles of leadership in the context of implementing district level health service delivery

This course is evaluated as follows:
- 40% Midterm Paper
- 60% Final Paper
