How did your degree prepare you for current and future roles in environmental science?

My degree earned at JHU equips me with the skills and knowledge I need related to environmental science. Skills like data analysis, instrument study, and chemistry, are pretty helpful for my current study at Washington University. Also, the experience in Dr. Preheim's lab gave me the opportunity to learn and practice lab skills, which benefits me a lot. All the things I learned in this program prepared me for upper-level study as a Ph.D. student.

What appealed to you about our program?

The research group at JHU appealed to me most. And JHU is known as a really good research university.

What, if anything, surprised you about coming to Hopkins and/or Baltimore?

For things not related to research, I’m surprised at the food at Hopkins. It’s better than I thought. Also, Baltimore is not as dangerous as I thought before going there. Especially on campus, I felt pretty safe even if I stayed late on campus.

What's your advice for prospective students?

There are a lot of helpful resources in this program. Make use of the seminars and opportunities to work in different labs. Professors are very nice and helpful. Talking to them is beneficial for both your current study and future plans. Baltimore is a beautiful city. Have fun learning and living in Baltimore!
