Kunihiro Matsushita, MD, was awarded the "Best Global Heart Journal Paper 2021" for his paper, "The Relationship of COVID-19 Severity with Cardiovascular Disease and Its Traditional Risk Factors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis," published in September 2020 in Global Heart. In the study, Matsushita and his colleagues suggest that hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are independently associated with severe COVID-19 and, together with age and male sex, can be informative for predicting the risk of severe COVID-19. Matsushita was officially recognized at the annual World Heart Federation conference in Geneva, Switzerland May 21-22, 2022.
