Celebration: Bloomberg School Recognized as 'Milestone in Microbiology' site

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health will be formally recognized by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) as a historic 'Milestone of Microbiology' site on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Bloomberg School Ceremony 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
Reception 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. 
Guests are invited to a reception immediately following the ceremony.  

Bloomberg School faculty and staff, together will all MMI alumni, are invited to attend the ceremony which will include:

  • An ASM representative will present Dean Ellen MacKenzie with a commemorative plaque 
  • A celebration of 100+ years of virology
  • We will acknowledge the contributions of virologist Keerti Shah (former MMI department chair) who is considered by many to be the foremost contributor of our current understanding that human papillomavirus (HPV) is the origin of cervical cancer, 
  • The legacy of researcher Noel Rose, MMI department chair from 1973 - 1982, and is considered to be a 'father of autoimmune disease research,' will also be celebrated. 

 

Before the schoolwide celebration MMI alumni are invited to join MMI faculty remarks about the history of the department from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
