Assessment of the Emergency Care System in Kampala, Uganda

School courtyard

Traumatic brain injuries are a common cause of emergency department (ED) visits and hospital admissions in Kampala, Uganda. Furthermore, the burden of injuries in Uganda is substantial and requires a formal EMS system, which has been proven to prevent morbidity and mortality for illnesses and injuries.

Our team conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing systems at Mulago National Referral Hospital from May 2016 to July 2017. Additionally, we developed and pilot tested an assessment tool in Kampala.
