Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety
According to the World Health Organization, there were an estimated 1.19 million road traffic deaths in 2021; this corresponds to a rate of 15 road traffic deaths per 100 000 population.

BIGRS-Specific Resources
The BIGRS supports JH-IIRU in producing reports that provide data-driven insights on road safety risks, synthesize scientific evidence on key issues, and assess compliance with strengthened road safety laws. These reports inform governments and stakeholders, offering evidence-based recommendations while evaluating public perceptions, market accessibility of safety equipment, and legislative enforcement to help reduce road traffic injuries, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Global Road Safety Leadership Course
Since 2016, JH-IIRU and the Global Road Safety Partnership – with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies – have trained more than 900 passionate road safety professionals from more than 70 low- and middle-income countries via the GRSLC. The objective of the course is to enhance effective leadership capacity to optimally address road safety to reduce deaths and serious injuries around the world. The course builds leadership capacity to design, advocate for, and implement effective road safety programs and policies.
