Located in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Center is one of the oldest and most productive health services research centers in the US. To access our latest annual Impact report, click here.
With rapid changes occurring in the U.S. health care system, research is needed to guide and understand the effects of those changes. Priority is given to research on Federal and state policy issues. Effort is devoted to using evidence to accomplish positive changes, with special attention paid to vulnerable population groups. The Center is directed by Dr. Albert Wu, a practicing internist and expert in outcomes research and patient safety; find the director’s welcome letter below.
Our faculty and staff conduct research covering a wide range of topics and issues: Quality of Care, Patient-Reported Outcomes and other Patient Outcome Measures, Program Evaluation, Health Policy, Patient Safety, Shared Decision Making, Health Care Providers, Systems and Organizations, Innovative Methods and their Applications, Patient and Community Engagement, Health Information Technology, Aging, End of Life Care, Comparative Effectiveness Research, Applied Microeconomics and Economic Evaluation.
While the Center is based administratively in the Department of Health Policy and Management of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, we draw faculty from other departments and Schools, led by the Division of General Internal Medicine. We work collaboratively with faculty from across the University, including the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Health System, the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality and with researchers outside JHU. Our research is supported by major Federal agencies, including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the National Institutes of Health, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and by private foundations and industry.
