Women's Health
Women’s health directly impacts the health of families and communities.
Welch Center faculty conduct patient-oriented women’s health research that focuses on improving health care services for women, understanding sex-specific differences in diseases and treatments, as well as developing interventions to prevent chronic diseases in women. Welch Center faculty collaborate with researchers across Johns Hopkins, including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Faculty interests include testing interventions that improve weight management in pregnancy and postpartum, understand cardio-metabolic risk differences between men and women, and applying a life course model to understanding the impact of in utero and early-life exposures on future health risks.
Our faculty are committed to training futures leaders in women’s health and sex differences research. We are leaders in the Johns Hopkins Women’s Health Research Group, as well as the Johns Hopkins Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (K-12) Award. Our large number of population-based studies, national and international health systems databases, and randomized clinical trials provide a rich substrate for original research projects conducted by trainees.
Welch Center Faculty with research interests in women’s health include: Lawrence Appel, Wendy Bennett, and Sherita Golden.
