Launch as a WHO Collaborating Center - March 15
On March 15, 2011, the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit celebrated its launch as a WHO Collaborating Center for Injuries, Violence and Accident Prevention. The day-long event also commemorated 50 years of service by the Department of International Health. The Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit is only the third WHO Collaborating Center in the United States to focus on injury prevention and joins a network of more than 800 WHO Collaborating Centers in more than 80 countries.

In April, 2012, as part of the effort to draw attention to the growing burden of road traffic injuries, the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit (JH-IIRU) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health launched "Public Health Burden of Road Traffic Injuries: An Assessment from Ten Low- and Middle-Income Countries", a special issue of Traffic Injury Prevention. The launch coincided with a midday seminar at the Bloomberg School in Baltimore, Maryland, which features panelists from the World Health Organization and the Global Road Safety Partnership.

Alcohol: Leading Risk Factor for Public Health
On Thursday, February 15, 2018, the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit kicked off its 10th anniversary celebration with a special conversation on alcohol, a leading risk factor for public health. Leadership from JH-IIRU and Johns Hopkins Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth, as well as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine presented and participated in an interactive panel discussion.
