About the Event
Hosted by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC), the monthly Innovations in Tobacco Control lecture series welcomes key researchers and experts to share ideas, present their work, and spark discussion. Presented via Zoom, this month’s event welcomes Qinghua Nian, PhD, for a lecture entitled “Advancing Tobacco Control in China.”
The lecture will be followed by a brief moderated Q&A and a recording of the event will subsequently be posted to IGTC’s YouTube channel.

Qinghua Nian, PhD
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
As a tobacco control policy research expert at the Institute for Global Tobacco Control, Qinghua Nian leads, designs, and executes research projects aimed at preventing death and disease caused by tobacco products. She specializes in methodologies for tobacco regulatory science and evidence-based tobacco control policies, particularly in China and other low- and middle-income countries, contributing to global efforts to reduce the negative health impacts of tobacco use. Dr. Nian’s work is published in peer-reviewed journals and a book, and she has been interviewed by various media outlets, sharing her findings with the broader research community. Dr. Nian obtained her PhD in urban affairs and public policy and MA in economics at the University of Delaware. Previously, she served as a quantitative researcher at the State University of New Jersey, Rutgers, and a senior statistician and data specialist at the Discovery Center for Evaluation, Research & Professional Learning at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
