About the Event

Hosted by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC), the monthly Innovations in Tobacco Control lecture series welcomes key researchers and experts to share ideas, present their work, and spark discussion. Presented via Zoom, this month’s event welcomes Anna Gilmore, PhD, for a lecture entitled “Assessing Progress in Tobacco Control: Time to Learn Lessons from the Commercial Determinants of Health?”

The lecture will be followed by a brief moderated Q&A and a recording of the event will subsequently be posted to IGTC’s YouTube channel.

A clinician by background, Anna Gilmore is professor of public health, founding director of the Tobacco Control Research Group, and co-director of the Centre for 21st Century Public Health at the University of Bath. Her work focuses on the commercial determinants of health and evaluates the impacts of public policies on health. It has led to policy impacts at both the local and global levels, recognized through numerous awards including the WHO World No Tobacco Day Medal (2008), Public Health Advocacy Institute Award (2009), and the inaugural European Health Leadership Award (2019) for “pioneering change makers.” In 2012, her team established the ground-breaking knowledge exchange platform TobaccoTactics.org and, in 2018, became the research partner in STOP, a global tobacco industry watchdog. Anna has over 300 publications and is a member of various international and national expert groups including the WHO’s recently established international expert group on the Commercial Determinants of Health.
