IGTC Associate Director Kevin Welding provided opening remarks for the recent Indonesia Tobacco Control Research Network Dissemination Conference. The event featured approximately 200 tobacco control activists, academicians, students and government officials. Ten presentations took place across three sessions focused on health warning labels/smoke free policies, tobacco taxation, and advertising, promotion and sponsorship bans.
The research network provides funding to support the growth of the evidence base in Indonesia. Previous grantees have published 29 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
This yearly event provides a networking opportunity for key players in tobacco control, civil society and academia as well as federal and local government, IGTC partners with Dr. Abdillah Ahsan and his team at the Center for Islamic Economics and Business at the University of Indonesia to support the research network.
